Medallion Quilt

Beautiful soft fabrics and an interesting appliqué design I think really make this quilt made by Robyn.

Robyn chose a combination of curls as a background fill, and feathers for each border to make each one individual, but gives the quilt an overall balance, and still keeping the soft pretty feel to it.  There was also a lot of ditch stitching with all the borders.

I especially like this appliqué motif.

The quilting shows well on the pale blue back, and you can see all the ditch stitching.

Coffee Mariner’s Compass

Heather’s daughter asked for a beige quilt for her 40th birthday, and this is the result.  I love the subtle beige and coffee tones.

Heather asked me to McTavish around the star, and the rest of the quilt combined ditch stitching, feathers and continuous curve.

I love the back too.

Dancing Dollies Quilt

This is the second time I have quilted this pretty design by Trish Harper called Dancing Dollies

Made by Alita as a present for a young girl, we decided to do an allover freehand daisy pattern which is soft and pretty.

The first time I quilted this design I custom quilted it.  If you want to have a look at this version, please click here.

Medallion Quilt in Liberty Fabrics

Lisa made this pretty and feminine quilt in Liberty fabrics from a pattern by Judy Newman.

Kathy, of Tamarack Shack had pictured on her blog a feather motif that incorporated hearts that I really liked, and I used this as inspiration for the feather design I quilted around the centre appliqué motif.  To see the blog post with the quilting motif I used as inspiration, click here.

I am so glad Lisa chose a plain back so all the quilting shows beautifully.

Pop over to Esther's Blog to see what other people are working on with her WIP Wednesdays.

Georgetown in Baltimore

This gorgeous traditional quilt by Barb was a pleasure to quilt – everything Barb brings me to quilt for her is always lovely and well pieced.

Barb asked for traditional quilting, so of course that meant feathers.

Mariner’s Compass in Purples and Reds

I love the colours in this quilt made by Irena.  She made almost the entire quilt out of her stash, and many of the fabrics have special meaning for her.  I think it has come together beautifully.

Irena didn’t want the quilting to dominate in her quilt, so I did a lot of ditch stitching.  I broke the large red setting triangles up with some straight lines as well as feathers to create a bit more interest, and I think the effect worked well.

Matilda’s Quilt

This gorgeous quilt was made by Emma, for her daughter Matilda who is eight.  Emma wanted it to be special, so she asked me to quilt lots of feathers on it.

Matilda chose the orange backing fabric, and I think it was a perfect choice, so I am showing lots of photos.  There were three thread colours used on the quilt – brown, green and cream.  All three show beautifully on the back.

China Blue Quilt Finished

I finished quilting this a couple of weeks ago.  I made it as a thank-you gift.  The person I am giving it to doesn’t know it has been made, and I hope she will really like it.

As it will be a functional quilt, I didn’t want to quilt it too heavily, but wanted to do more than an allover to make the plain squares special.

Once I have the binding completed, I will be mailing it to its new home.

Appliqué Medallion Quilt

This was heaven to quilt.  The instructions from Denise when she brought it to me to be quilted were - lots of feathers, and it could be quilted densely.  As I had quilted for Denise before, I felt comfortable having artistic freedom with her quilt.  The quilt was beautifully pieced and appliqued.  Denise made it for her son and daughter-in-law for their wedding present.

As you can see, it is quilted densely, and there are feathers.  Almost all the piecing was ditch stitched to stabilise the quilt.  I was originally going to put some sort of curls in the wider dark pink border - but it just didn’t feel right.  The quilt was almost finished when I decided to do the pinstripes.  It took longer, but I think  it works better; giving contrast to the feathers.

Chocolate Overdose

I made this quilt in 2006.  I fell in love with the main fabric in this quilt, and didn’t want to cut it into small pieces.

Up until this point I usually made quilts with a limited number of carefully co-ordinated fabrics, so this was a challenge for me to incorporate so many fabrics into the four patches.

When it was finished, I felt there was too much of the brown fabric, which is why I called it Chocolate Overdose.

This is the back.
