Harlequin Stars

This gorgeous quilt was made by Karen.  The pattern is Harlequin Stars by Emma Jean Jansen.  I have this pattern myself, and it is on my (very long) to do one day list.

I love the fabrics that Karen chose, and the way she has incorporated the striped fabrics.

Karen chose to have my freehand allover feather plume pattern.  I love how it gives texture and you can see the feathers in the white around the stars.  But at the same time it doesn't overpower the piecing.

The back was a vibrant green, and you can see the quilting with the white thread.

Linen and Lace

I pieced this quilt in 2013, and quilted it around 2015 I think.  I found it packed away when I moved in March this year with the binding attached, just needing to be stitched down.  I had even made the hanging sleeve, ready to be attached.

It was a good project to work on in the first lockdown and finally have it completed.  I probably would quilt it differently if I did it now with less pebbles.  But I like the feathers and circles.

Jelly Roll Crosses

I made this quilt to use up a jelly roll I had won.   I quilted it with allover freehand feathers.

I plan to give it to a friend that will find a good home for it.

The back was pieced to use up some fabric I had in my stash, but you can see the quilting nicely with the white thread.

Checkered Stars

This is a quilt I completed a few years back.  The top was completed in 2011.  I started quilting it in 2012, got around 80% of it done, and then had to take it off the machine to work on customer’s quilts.  It took another two years before it got loaded again so get the last bit done.

I quilted it heavily with a combination of straight and curved lines and of course feathers.

I entered it into Showcase - which is the main show for my state of Victoria in 2015, and was thrilled that it won first in its category.

Bronwyn's Block Swap

This is Bronwyn's Block Swap Quilt.  You can see my version using the same blocks here.

There were ten members of the block swap group, so it was an interesting number of blocks to have to incorporate into a quilt.  I like how Bronwyn offset her blocks into three rows leaving interesting space in between for quilting.

I wanted to emphasise the long lines of the quilt so quilted straight lines down the length of the quilt gong behind the blocks.

A plain fabric on the back shows the quilting beautifully.

Blue Nine Patch Quilt

This traditional quilt in soft blues belongs to Sharon and it also is another one I quilted last year.  It is designed by Sandra Boyle.

The batting was hobbs polydown and Sharon wanted the quilting to be light so it was soft and a little puffy.

I ditch stitched the blocks and quilted a feather wreath in the plain blocks.

Feathered Star

This gorgeous quilt was made by Gail, and of course I wanted to quilt feathers on it.  I really like Gail’s fabric choices with the dark red for the points of the stars giving it a strong focus.

I quilted straight lines on the main point of the star to give some contrast to the curved feathers and background fill.

The back shows the quilting beautifully.

A Week of Quilts – Bonus Day Eight

This is one of Michelle Yeo’s quilts.  We debated custom quilting this quilt, but decided on an intense freehand allover feather design.

I like how the feathers show in the plain areas but don’t distract from the complexity of Michelle’s design.

Feather Wreaths and Baskets

And the final in my trilogy of feather wreaths is Bev’s Quilt.

I like how the feather wreaths seem to pop.  I also like the little cross hatching that Bev asked me to do at the base of the baskets.

More Mini Feather Wreaths

This gorgeous quilt was made by Annemarie.  It is a Moda Collection for a Cause pattern that came in a tin printed with a picture of the quilt.

All the sashing and blocks were ditch stitched and I CCed the pinwheels.  The plain squares had a mini feather wreath.  There were 182 full mini wreaths, and 28 half mini wreaths in this quilt.

Mini Feather Wreaths

A traditional medallion quilt by Michelle Yeo.  I ditch stitched the seams, and placed a feather wreath on each of the unpierced squares.  I like how the circular quilting softens the squareness of the piecing.

Large Appliqué Quilt

This gorgeous and very large appliqué quilt was made by Margaret, and it was a pleasure to quilt.

I love feathers, and there were plenty of large open spaces for me to quilt feathers, so I was happy.

I have linked to Esther’s Blog for her WIP on Wednesdays.
