Mediterranean Rose

I am still working on the My Quilts page.  I have uploaded nine more photos, and the last of the quilts (and two quilt tops) that I have in the house have been photographed, and I’ll upload them soon.

Here is a quilt that I made in 2007.  I used pealed back patchwork in the blocks.  The quilting motifs were stencilled onto the quilt before loading it, and after it was quilted, I coloured parts of it.

A Man’s Quilt

The majority of the quilts I do, for myself as well as for customers, are made to be used.  They are made as presents for loved ones, to throw over the couch, or to put on the bed.  Usually these are quilted with an allover pattern as it gives the quilt a nice soft finish.

This is an example.  Made by Gail for her father, the fabrics are gorgeous, and very masculine.  It was quilted with an allover freehand feather plume, which really complimented the quilt.

The back was pieced and shows the quilting really well.

Appliqué Medallion Quilt

This was heaven to quilt.  The instructions from Denise when she brought it to me to be quilted were - lots of feathers, and it could be quilted densely.  As I had quilted for Denise before, I felt comfortable having artistic freedom with her quilt.  The quilt was beautifully pieced and appliqued.  Denise made it for her son and daughter-in-law for their wedding present.

As you can see, it is quilted densely, and there are feathers.  Almost all the piecing was ditch stitched to stabilise the quilt.  I was originally going to put some sort of curls in the wider dark pink border - but it just didn’t feel right.  The quilt was almost finished when I decided to do the pinstripes.  It took longer, but I think  it works better; giving contrast to the feathers.

Antique Rose

I am continuing work on the My Quilts page.  I have just uploaded some photos I found on the computer, and last week I pulled some of my earlier quilts out from the top of the cupboard and took photos of them.  I will upload them soon.

I thought I would share in more detail a quilt I made in 2006.  Until I made Cherry Chocolate last year, Antique Rose was my favourite.  I have used images from this quilt for my web site, and blog header.

I was planning to do some kind of appliqué in the setting triangles and then quilt the feathers around it.  But when the top was coming together, it felt wrong.  So I substituted the cross hatching instead, and was much happier with the result.

New Wheels on my APQS

This morning we had brunch at my sister’s place.  I took the opportunity to take a photo of the quilts I had made and given her, which I will upload to the my quilts page when I get a chance.

In the afternoon Paul helped me install my new M & M wheels on Bertha, my APQS Millennium.  It was pretty straightforward – especially as we have done much more serious maintenance in the past (like changing the motor).

Bertha was removed and upside down as we changed the wheels on her.

Paul is installing the new wheels on the carriage.

A Touch of Lace

I am still working on the My Quilts page.  It has been a lot of work - pulling out quilts and taking photos, finding pictures of quilts that I have given away that are hiding on my PC, chasing down quilt owners to take a photo.  But I have always wanted to do this, and I am so glad this blog is giving me the motivation to get it done.

I am finding looking at some of my earlier quilts (often for the first time in years) very interesting, and seeing some of the stages I went through.

The quilt below I designed and made in 2003.  It was one of the first quilts I did on my brand new APQS Millennium.  I was experimenting with incorporating lace into the quilt.  I might have to try this again…..

This quilt won third place in the viewers’ choice at the Patchworkers’ and Quilters’ Guild Show - the first time I had ever entered a quilt in a show, so I was thrilled.  It was published in Australian Patchwork and Quilting; I am not sure of the year, either 2005 or 2006.

Red, White, and Scrappy

I love red and white quilts. And I love scrappy quilts. So guess what; I love this quilt. I have always wanted to make my own red and white quilt, so I have added it to my list…..

My customer made this as part of a friendship group. I quilted it with an allover daisy and loop pattern, which kept it light and just a wee bit cute.
