Shopping with Sinead

Today was a fun day.  My niece Sinead had asked me to make her a quilt for her couch.  As her 21st birthday is coming up, I thought it would be a perfect present.

So today we went fabric shopping.  I always enjoy shopping for fabric, and spending time with my favourite eldest niece was a bonus.

This is the fabric she chose – very yummy, and matches her couch and cushions perfectly.

These are Sinead’s three blind mice statuettes which she loves and asked me to post on my blog for the world to see.

Whilst I was visiting Sinead I also took a photo of the quilt I made for her a couple of years ago.  The is the Giant Dahlia pattern, and I got the templates from Michelle Yeo.  I plan to make this quilt again in reproduction fabrics, and have even selected the fabrics - it is on my very long ‘to do’ list.

Michelle's Quilt

This is a quilt I completed recently.  The maker and designer is Michelle Yeo – michelleyeoquiltdesigns.com.

I adore reproduction fabrics and traditional quilts, and it is always a pleasure to quilt one of Michelle’s quilts.

It is a shame that the quilting is hard to see in the photos, but there are feathers on each of the stars, and around the central star.

Flip Side

I made this quilt as a surprise for friends who have a modern and stylish inner city apartment.  Their décor is mostly neutral with dark mushroom coloured carpet, and off white walls/fittings.  They have a fire engine red leather couch.
So it was made with two sides – hence the name Flip Side.  The top in neutral colours (I just love the large spot fabric), and the back in red.

The red fabric was a nightmare in terms of the colour fastness.  I washed it over a dozen times, soaked it with salt, and another time with vinegar.  But the red dye still ran.  So I have advised that they never get the quilt wet - unless of course they want a pink quilt :)

I quilted it with an allover feather design with the feathers curling in one direction, and more straight in the opposite direction.

Rose Square

To get started, and to practice uploading a photo I thought I would show a quilt I made in 2007.  I originally designed the quilt in blue for the Patchworkers and Quilters Guild raffle quilt.  I liked the design so much, I remade it in my favourite colours.
