Cute Applique Quilt

Before I had the accident, I took photos of a few quilts I was working on, but because of the extension I didn’t find the time to post them.  Speaking of the extension, it is finished (imagine me in bed in hospital co-ordinating tradesmen on my mobile and you have an accurate picture).  I will post pictures of that soon.

Pictured is a quilt made by Elaine, which I think is really sweet.

I did small loops as the background fill, and quilted some large daisies in the border.

Elaine does exquisite appliqué and embroidery, and I have posted two of her quilts on my blog in the past.

I have an appointment on Friday for more x-rays of my ankle.  If all is well, the cast comes off, and then I will be in a boot for six weeks. 

I have adapted well to quilting sitting down and have new routines for loading and unloading the quilts.  I am still slower, but improving.  I have mastered the crutches, but it really is a skill that I would have been quite happy to never have had to learn.

A Pretty Quilt for a Girl

Cheryl made this for her grand daughter.  I have quilted a number of this design over the years and I think it is a lovely quilt.

Cheryl wanted me to emphasise the appliqué, so I did small loops in the background and outlined the larger appliqué.  Cheryl chose an allover freehand daisy and butterfly pattern for the remainder of the quilt.

Collingwood Quilt Finished

I actually finished this in mid January, but have only just organised the photos.

It was made for my nephew pictured below.

I quilted one football into the quilt for a bit of fun.

Another family member follows West Coast Eagles, so I pieced the back in their colours.

Dancing Dollies Quilt

This is the second time I have quilted this pretty design by Trish Harper called Dancing Dollies. 

Made by Alita as a present for a young girl, we decided to do an allover freehand daisy pattern which is soft and pretty.

Pretty Quilt for a Girl

This sweet quilt was made by Edwina for her granddaughter Rachael.  She wanted the quilting kept light and used Hobbs wool so the quilt has a lovely soft puffy feel.

I ditch stitched all the piecing and outlined the appliqué.  In the plain border I quilted a daisy row which was in keeping with the feel of the quilt.

 

The back looks pretty too as Edwina chose a plain fabric which shows all the quilting (and the detailed ditch stitching).

Hungry Caterpillar

Do you remember the Hungry Caterpillar book from when you were a child?  It was one of my favourites.

This quilt belongs to Heather, and the pattern nicely showcases the Hungry Caterpillar fabric. 

 

   

I love the border.  It brings back memories of the book from when I was young, and imagining the delight of eating all those yummy foods.

Circle of Friends

This quilt was made by Margaret, a local teacher, quilter, and embroider.  She sells kits for this quilt.

We decided on a simple custom design for the quilting, as we didn’t want to quilt over the appliquéd children fabric.  I quilted a smallish meandering around the appliqué with a spiral in the centre of each motif. I like this because it emphasises the fabric.  I crosshatched the pieced border, and quilted a freehand allover open curl pattern on the remainder.

Hearts for a Granddaughter

This pretty quilt is Heather’s.  She chose an allover heart and loop pattern as the quilt was made with love for her granddaughter, Adelaide, who is turning seven.

 

Heather asked me not to quilt on the green squares made up of the four triangles because she plans to hand quilt this area herself.  As I quilt freehand, it is easy for me to go around areas on a quilt.  But because it was not appliqué or something really obvious, the hardest part was to remember.  So I placed some templates on each of the green squares to remind me to go around those areas as I quilted.

 

Heather pieced the back, and the quilting shows beautifully on the cream.

A Fun Quilt

This quilt was made by Nancy for her granddaughter Brianna’s second birthday.  Although it was custom quilted, the quilting was kept light so the quilt remained soft.  I love the hearts in the blue border - the quilt was made with love.

I quilted this a couple of weeks ago, but have only now found the time to organise the photos and post it.

Cute Heart Quilt

Here is a cute little heart quilt that I delivered back to Patchwork House this morning. Made by Kylie Hawkins at Patchwork House, she is planning to make up kits for this quilt.

The quilting is really light with ditch stitching and ¼ inching, giving a lovely soft finish which is so cuddly.
