Stylish and elegant come to my mind when I look at this quilt made by Carole. 

 I love the effect the different sized pebbles have made on this quilt.

Quilt Teacher

My seven year old niece has been working on her first quilt with me.  She chose all the fabrics from my stash, sewed every single seam, and quilted it herself on my long arm machine.  I am so proud of her.

She is coming for another visit this weekend to finish it - only the binding to go.  

Pretty Embroidery

Another of Janet Sansom’s embroidery quilts.   Very pretty – a little girl would love this quilt.

Stars and Feathers

This quilt was made by Chris Serong.  She will be teaching it at Goldfield Quilters in Castlemaine this November.

There was a lot of background in this quilt. The centre of the star is a circle, and I wanted to emphasise this circular aspect.

Magnificent Lone Star

I was very excited when Barbara brought me this quilt.  When she gave me artistic freedom, and told me I could quilt it heavily with lots of feathers, I was in heaven.  I really enjoyed quilting this quilt, and thank Barbara for entrusting it to me.

I decided to break down the cream setting triangles to mirror the setting of the star into the quilt, and quilt different feather motifs in each.

I also broke up the unusual shape in the corners to make the feathers more interesting.

I thought the quilting in contrasting thread showing on the dark purple back was gorgeous.  Unfortunately it was a dull rainy day when I took the photos so they didn’t show the quilting on the back as well as I would have liked.

Sydney 2012 Quilt Show

Last weekend I went to Sydney for the weekend with my husband.  On Saturday morning we went to the Quilt Show.  We both agreed that it was the best show in Sydney we have attended.  The quilts were so inspiring.

It was with pleasure I saw my quilt Ruled by Chocolate hanging there.  As it won Best in Show in Victoria last year, it travels around the country this year along with all the other Best in Show quilts, which is such an honour.

It wasn’t until I got home that I realised that I also managed to include on the left of the photo a lovely shot of Rachelle Denney’s gorgeous wholecloth quilt.  Luckily I also took a photo of the quilt information for this quilt.  

I usually don’t spend too much time at at the vendors when I go to a quilt show as I find the crowds off putting, but I wanted to find  a present for a friend.  I also ended up buying some fabric for myself – I just couldn’t resist. 

After we left the show, Paul and I stopped for lunch and of course I had to pull out and play with my fabric purchases.  I was unaware Paul snapped this photo of me.

In my hand I am holding the roll of Kofu fabric which will be a gift for someone special (she knows who she is, so if she is reading this blog I bet she is zooming in for a close up on the fabric right now).

I was in Japan several years ago and was lucky enough to attend a quilt show there.  I loved the Sakizomemomen fabrics and bought some.  When I saw more at the Sydney show I couldn’t pass by adding to my collection in the same shades as what I had at home.

Here is a picture including my new purchases in the top row.  I think they blend in perfectly.  I don’t know what I will do with the fabric yet.  Just playing with it is pleasure enough right now.

Medallion Quilt

Beautiful soft fabrics and an interesting appliqué design I think really make this quilt made by Robyn.

Robyn chose a combination of curls as a background fill, and feathers for each border to make each one individual, but gives the quilt an overall balance, and still keeping the soft pretty feel to it.  There was also a lot of ditch stitching with all the borders.

I especially like this appliqué motif. 

 

The quilting shows well on the pale blue back, and you can see all the ditch stitching.
