Australian Christmas Quilt

This is another quilt I did way back before I broke my ankle.  This is made by Carol and I love the design.

This is my favourite block.  The mother kangaroo’s expression seems so tolerant with her pouch stuffed full of presents.

Nearly two weeks ago I went back to the hospital for more x-rays, the cast came off, and I have graduated to a boot.  I get to wear this lovely fashion accessory for six weeks as I learn to take weight through my ankle again.  I am now ‘furniture walking’ i.e. hobbling between pieces of furniture, and using a cane.  This is lot better than crutches as it gives me a free hand to carry things.

I am slowly catching up with the allover bookings, and many of my wonderful customers have allowed me to postpone their custom bookings until after Christmas.  I am still quilting sitting down, it is slower, but I have worked out a routine that helps.

I am learning patience........

  1. Desley, enjoy the break (no pun intended) and get tons of reading done, guilt free! By the way, I saw the lovely Janette Samson pastel pink quilt at AMQF. It is so lovely!

  5. The quilting is nice on this applique quilt. Love the applique designs-Kangaroos not a common sight on quilts here in America. ;-) The boot however looks the same as the one I had to wear. Keep healing!

  10. Cute quilt! Hope you recover soon, so you don't need to be doing the quilting like this, I guess it's hard on your neck and shoulders sitting down while quilting.

  14. Hello, I saw two quilts similar to this one, obviously the same designer, at a school craft expo this weekend. The quilter was there & told me she had made them as block of the month quilts, around 2002 onward. She had tried to find the patterns when sorting out which quilts to show, knew someone would ask, but was unsuccessful & regretful she couldn't remember the designer either. I googled Australian Christmas Quilts and imagine my delight when this pic popped up!!! I am hoping that you or Carol, can help me with a designer, supplier or pattern. I have never attempted appliqué but, having seen two from this same series of quilts, I'm smitten & very keen to make one of them as my first appliqué quilt. Thanking you in anticipation, Linda
