A Pretty Quilt for a Girl

Cheryl made this for her grand daughter.  I have quilted a number of this design over the years and I think it is a lovely quilt.

Cheryl wanted me to emphasise the appliqué, so I did small loops in the background and outlined the larger appliqué.  Cheryl chose an allover freehand daisy and butterfly pattern for the remainder of the quilt.

Dr. Seuss-like Feathers

This quilt is also from Janet Sansom.  She wanted feathers in the sashing.  I liked the curve of the embroidery in the block and decided to imitate it.

I did this by randomly chalking in the boundary between the feathers in each sashing piece.  I was thinking as I quilted it that it reminded me of Dr Seuss’ illustrations.

Gorgeous Appliqué

Anthea is well known for her gorgeous and detailed appliqué, and this quilt is no exception.  It is a shame it was a very dull day when I took these photos and they don’t show the detail as much as I would like.  

  

I saw my role when quilting this quilt was to simply emphasise Anthea’s appliqué which I did with a mixture of background fills, outlining and ditch stitching.

Heather’s daughter asked for a beige quilt for her 40th birthday, and this is the result.  I love the subtle beige and coffee tones.

Heather asked me to McTavish around the star, and the rest of the quilt combined ditch stitching, feathers and continuous curve.

I love the back too.

Homage to Sallie Ann

This is Pauline’s gorgeous appliqué quilt.  The pattern is Homage to Sallie Ann by Di Ford.

Pauline asked me to McTavish the background and incorporate curling feathers around the centre appliqué.  To make the feathers stand out more I also quilted a few pebbles around them.

The Extension

This is why I have not posted for over a month - we are doing an upstairs extension.  I am still quilting, and taking pictures of my work, but the stress and time devoted to the extension has meant I have neglected my blog for way too long.

I am very excited.  The room in the middle upstairs will be for my personal sewing and will be open, light filled with lovely views of the city in the distance.  The best bit is that I will have a walk-in cupboard lined with shelves just for my fabric stash. So all my fabric will be in one place rather than scattered in drawers and boxes all over the house.  Have I mentioned I am excited????

This is the picture of the house before the extension started back in mid February.

Until about two weeks ago, when the roof tiles and guttering was put on the roof of the lower level, I have been living under tarps of different configurations as the extension moved though the sub floor and frame stages.  

Progress is going well, and so far I am very happy with the builder.  But I can’t wait until it is finished and I can have my normal life back again.

Although I may be a bit slower in posting, I will keep on showing some of the beautiful quilts I am lucky and honoured to be entrusted with.  I have several posts lined up over the next few days – so stay tuned……
